Pop Art – Romero Britto

The children will learn about Romero Britto and produce a picture, using his style of pop art.

Mali Morris

The children will learn about Mali Morris and how he used circles and squares in his artwork.  They will use square and circular pieces of tissue paper to make their own calendar.

Computing

Online Safety and Searching - Purple Mash

The children will learn how to be safe online and how to search safely on Purple Mash.

Spreadsheets - Purple Mash

The children will learn about spreadsheets and how to add data to their spreadsheet.

Geography  

UK - Countries and Capital Cities

The children will learn to locate the countries of the UK and their capital cities.  They also learn to name the seas that surround the UK.

History

 

Kings, Queens and Victorian Times

The children will enjoy learning about Queen Victoria, Victorian schools, how hospitals have changed and Victorian inventions.  They will also learn about Queen Victoria and King Charles.

Music

Tempo

The children will distinguish between a steady beat and a rhythm.  They will respond to fast and slow tempos and will compose their own piece of music using different tempos. 

Dynamics and Texture

The children will learn about crescendo and diminuendo and will use musical instruments to play their own crescendos and diminuendos.  

PE

Fundamental Movement Skills (FSM)

The children will learn to throw balls and beanbags with accuracy and develop passing and receiving with their feet.

Yoga

The children will learn to stretch and relax as they learn to hold yoga positions, e.g. tree, mountain and child's pose.

Fundamental Movement Skills (FSM)

The children will experiment with different running techniques and will improve their jumping techniques.

Gym

In gym, the children will use the 5 shapes (tuck, star, straight, straddle and pike) and jumps (tuck, straight and star) to make their own sequences.

RE

Symbols 

The children will talk about symbols they recognise in the local environment, design their own school logo and recognise why symbols are important to Christians and Hindus.

The Christmas Journey

The children will talk about journeys they have been on, the Christmas Journey and Babushka's journey.

Healthy Eating and Exercise

The children will design their own healthy plate and will carry out an exercise experiment to show what happens to our bodies when we exercise and why exercise is important.

The children explore the work of Jim McDonald and draw their own Titanic.

Computing

Art Packages - Purple Mash

The children will explore impressionism, pointillism, Piet Mondrian and William Morris.

 

 

Coding - Purple Mash

The children will learn what an algorithm is and will write algorithms to make characters move. 

An algorithm is a set of instructions.  They will need to debug their algorithm if something goes wrong.

Moon Buggies - Wheels and axles

The children will learn about how wheels and axles work. 

They will design, make and evaluate their own moon buggy.

Salad - Food technology

The children will learn how to grate, peel and slice fruits and vegetables.  

They will design, make and evaluate their own salad for a passenger on the Titanic.

History

History of Space Travel

The children will research space travel and answer the questions: How has the modern space travel changed since the moon landing? And How is space travel different in modern day?  They will sequence main developments in the exploration of space and explore how Neil Armstrong and the exploration of space made a significant change to the world.

They will also research women who went into space and animals that that travelled into space.

History of the Titanic

The children will research throughout this topic to answer the question, Why do people still remember the Titanic sinking?

They will place the events on a timeline and explore the class system on the Titanic.  The children will research passengers from Basingstoke and reasons why they would have been travelling on the Titanic.

 

Music

Texture and Timbre

The children will listen to a variety of music and identify the layers of sounds they can hear (Texture).  They will also choose different ways to change and use their voice as an instrument when composing music (Timbre).

Duration and Structure

The children will explore, respond to and recognise a steady beat, rhythm, long and short sounds in music.  They will practise using notation and structures (beginning, middle and end) when composing their own music.

The children will make their own dance to some space music.

Team Games

The children will explore making their own team games with their own rules.

Special Foods

The children will describe food that is special to them and why.  They will discuss why food is special to different people and during different celebrations.  The children will discuss what food is special to Hindus as well as Christians and will learn about Prasada.

Remembering

The children will describe what 'remembering' means to them and ways in which Christians remember.  They will also explore Hinduism and how Hindus remember Vishnu and will learn about the Hindu celebration of Holi.
